Bethany Beach, a Delaware Shore “Secret”

Named one of the “Best Secret Beaches” by Travel & Leisure Magazine, Bethany Beach has seven miles of wide, sandy beaches. The small boardwalk (.38 miles long) is an ideal place to watch the sunrise over the ocean.

Bethany is a family-oriented beach town offering swimming, boating, fishing and crabbing. During the summer months, bring your lawn chair to the Bandstand and enjoy entertainment under the stars. Various bands play everything from Jazz and Big Band music to Rock and Roll. There are talent shows as well as singing groups that perform. Monday night is movie night on the beach, where all movies shown are rated PG and can be enjoyed by the entire family. In keeping with their desire to be a family place to visit, Bethany Beach passed a ban on smoking on the beach and boardwalk in 2011.

At the downtown entrance to Bethany Beach you can’t miss the 24 foot totem pole sculpted by Peter Toth. The totem pole depicts Chief Little Owl and honors the Nanticoke Indian. Toth has sculpted a totem pole for each state. You can also see Maryland’s totem pole at the inlet in Ocean City.
