New townhomes next to a swamp in West Fenwick?

Can you imagine building new homes next to a swamp just off of Route 54 in West Fenwick, Delaware? We can’t imagine that one would intentionally put new construction right at the edge of a wetland area.

New home in a swamp in West Fenwick

Is this really a swamp? Probably not - this was shot on a Saturday following a Thursday that had rain all day.

So there must be more to this construction site than what meets the eye.

We can’t really tell if this is a swamp, but that large ditch has had water in it continually for the two-and-a-half years we’ve been using that road (to get back to higher ground where our home was built).

We’ll have to stop in at the sales office to ask what plans there are to dry out the areas around the construction site.  Meanwhile, we’ll just have to suppose that the swampy area will somehow be drained. Not saying that the summertime mosquitoes would be large enough to carry off small children or pets, but we would surely lay in a good supply of insect repellent. (Just kidding/just kidding.)

A view through the neighboring trees.
